A friend asked me recently what kinds of gifts I seek out for my children for Christmas. Throughout the year, I collect such treasures as will serve to open their eyes to beauty and wonder, feed their minds, and cause their hearts and souls to blossom....

In the recent past,  two things you will not tell a child at Christmas are that there is no Christmas dress and the traditional festive rice that seems to taste special that day will not be available, no matter how poorly prepared. Then, you easily notice the flaunting of plastic wrist watches and eye glasses, toy guns, other children toys and most importantly, the parade on the streets with Christmas dresses. Women will dress to impress their husbands, or at least pretend to be well cared for, while younger people, especially girls, seem to dress to kill. Children care less about the difficulties parents face in getting food on the table, all they want even at this Christmas is fun, merriment, visitations and most especially, the traditional Christmas rice. ’ Truly, preparations for the yuletide celebrations, especially for children, break every ethnic and social barrier. Even adults were not left out of the craze for seasonal fashion show.
